San Francisco to Eureka?
« on: November 01, 2017, 04:44:46 pm »
I am currently in the east bay and I am traveling alone with little gear or finances. I must research the best safest route from San Francisco bay area up to Eureka where my friend is. I'm 32, athletic, and prepared to do what I have to get there alive, but I need help with a safe and doable route, possibly with contacts of local cyclists with local knowledge about a point-to-point route. I would appreciate any tips to links or resources that would help me accomplish this. Thank you!

Have you seen our Pacific Coast route? Section 3 would get you from San Francisco to Eureka with all the information you need.

See route overview here: https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/pacific-coast/

Map Features here: https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/map-features/

And you can zoom into the route for a bit more detail on our interactive route map: https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/interactive-network-map/

You don't say when you'd be riding this route. Be aware that if it's summer, you'll probably have headwinds most days.

Hope this helps,
Jennifer

Ms. Milyko is right. You will be fighting headwinds and not just in the summer. I did the west coast north-to-south - Florence OR to Santa Maria CA - in the fall and had fine tailwinds. It would have been miserable in the opposite direction.
